# Deroue clinches win in tight inaugural Supersport 300 contest

Former Red Bull Rookies Cup runner-up and grand prix rider Scott Deroue made history at MotorLand Aragon after he won the very first World Supersport 300 race.

The Dutch rider started from pole, but didn’t make the greatest of starts and dropped to fifth, with Mykyta Kalinen taking the holeshot from Daniel Valle and Robert Schotman.

Kalinen wasted no time and immediately opened up an advantage on his Yamaha YZF-R3 whilst the group behind squabbled over the final podium places. Eventually, WILSport Honda rider Mika Perez broke away and began the hunt for the Ukrainian rider.

Perez’s life was made easy when Kalinen tucked the front at Turn 9 and slid into retirement. This promoted Deroue, Schotman, Valle, and Borja Sanchez up a place, with a healthy gap forming behind to the Angelo Licciardi, Paolo Grassia and Giuseppe De Gruttola battle.

Perez was able to eke out a lead of over two seconds but was reeled in in the closing stages by Deroue, and he passed him with ease into Turn 4. Perez slipped to fourth, but regained his composure to return to the battle for the victory.

A crash for Schotman on the penultimate lap saw an insurmountable gap form between fourth-place Sanchez and the leaders.

On the run down to the final corner on the last lap, Deroue held sway and kept his nerve to halt Valle coming through on his inside into the final turn to take victory by just 0.047s. Perez crossed the line third.

Sanchez was 10 seconds clear of fifth-placed Licciardi, who led home Grassia, De Gruttola and Dorren Loureiro. Paolo Giacomini and ETG Racing’s Ana Carrasco completed the top 10.

Alfonso Coppola, Manuel Bastianelli, Britain’s Alex Murley, Harun Cabuk and Armando Pontone were the last of the points scorers.
