# Fores suffers fiery exit from Race 1

Barni Racing’s Xavie Fores suffered burns to his arm and neck after his Ducati burst into flames late in the opening race of the weekend at MotorLand Aragon.

The Spanish rider enjoyed a strong Superpole, dragging his customer Panigale R to the middle of the second row in fifth. Having secured two top five finishes in last year’s Aragon round, expectation was high for the first race.

Indeed, Fores got off the line well and maintained position, but closely shadowed the battling Aruba Ducati and Kawasaki of Marco Melandri and Tom Sykes.

However, his charge was halted at the beginning of laps six when he slid off at Turn 1. The bike appeared to be relatively undamaged and he rejoined, though all later proved not to be well.

“I was angry because of the crash, because we could have had a very good race,” said Fores.

“I was pushing to reach Sykes, but I lost the front. When I came back on track there was a noise on the back and when the bike caught on fire it was a scary moment for me because I couldn’t jump off.

I suffered neck and right arm burns, but I hope tomorrow will be possible to have a quick redemption.”

With a single bike rule in the World Superbike Championship, Fores’ mechanics face a race against time to get his Ducati ready in time for tomorrow morning’s warm-up session and the second race later in the day.
