Renault e.dams’ Sebastien Buemi retained his early advantage in the second practice session ahead of the Mexico City ePrix.

The Swiss driver set a lap time of 1m02.164s to top the timesheets ahead of ABT Schaeffler Audi’s Lucas di Grassi, who was 0.111 seconds adrift of his championship rival.

Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne led much of the session before being knocked off the top, finishing third, just thousandths behind di Grassi. Mahindra’s Nick Heidfeld finished above di Grassi’s team-mate Daniel Abt, NextEV’s Nelson Piquet Jr. and Venturi’s Maro Engel.

Both of the latter drivers were users of the run-off area at Turn 1 as drivers continued to test the limits of the track.

Andretti’s Antonio Felix da Costa finished 0.691s off the pace in eighth ahead of NextEV’s Oliver Turvey and Dragon Racing’s Loic Duval.

The most high-profile moment of the session came as Jose Maria Lopez severely damaged the front right corner of his DS Virgin car in the final moments of the session after turning in far too early at the final chicane and making contact with the barriers.

Jaguar Racing’s Adam Carroll finished as the slowest of the 20 drivers, completing the session 2.012s behind Buemi’s lap time.
