# Scheib storms to the top in Superstock practice

Maximilian Scheib ended the opening day of practice ahead of the first round of the 2017 European Superstock 1000 season top of the pile on his Nuova M2 Racing Aprilia.

Scheib stunned as a wildcard at the end of the 2016 season, and comes into this year as one of a large selection of riders to watch out for. The Nuova rider shot to the top of the pile late in FP1 with a 1m52.735s, which is just two tenths away from the outright lap record.

Roberto Tamburini dragged his Pata Yamaha R1 to second on the combined times, just over two tenths adrift of Scheib. Team-mate Florian Marino failed to improve on his FP1 best this afternoon, but still ends the day third overall.

Michael Ruben Rinaldi lead Aruba.it Ducati team-mate Mike Jones in fourth place, the pair split by just three tenths of a second. Australian Jones makes his STK1000 debut this season having proved successful in his native national series.

Marco Faccani was top BMW rider in sixth spot, and was two tenths ahead of fellow S1000RR-mounted runners Federico D’annunzio and Federico Sandi.

Puccetti Kawasaki’s Toprak Razgatlioglu got the year off to a slow start in ninth, 1.9s off the pace on his ZX-10R. Jeremy Guarnono, on the Pedercini Kawasaki, completed the top 10, with Triple M Racing’s Illia Mykhalchyk just a few thousandths behind in 11th.

Both of today’s 30-minutes sessions were relatively calm, with only Bryan Leu and Luca Marconi visiting MotorLand Aragon’s gravel traps in FP2. Both riders walked away from their spills unscathed.
