# Rins suffers ankle injury in training accident

Suzuki rider Alex Rins has suffered a fractured ankle in a motocross training accident on Thursday which has put his participation in the Argentine Grand Prix in doubt.

Rins made his MotoGP debut last weekend in Qatar, and impressively guided his GSX-RR to ninth spot and top rookie honours despite starting from a lowly 18th on the grid.

The Spaniard spent the back half of his 2016 Moto2 campaign struggling with injury, and a heavy crash on the second day of the Valencia test in November left him with several fractured vertebra and a lengthy recovery period.

After experiencing some pain in his right ankle following the motocross accident, Rins decided to have it checked at the University Hospital Dexeus in Barcelona. Dr Xavier Mir and his team diagnosed a small fracture of the talus bone.

Dr Mir decided that they would treat Rins’ injury without surgery to begin with, opting to try magnetotherapy and physiotherapy instead.

Rins will undergo further checks next Monday to assess his physical condition before a decision is made on whether he will race in next weekend’s second round of the championship in Argentina or not.
