# Vinales completes winter testing clean sweep

Movistar Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales has concluded the final winter test of 2017 top of the time sheets, completing a clean sweep of this pre-season’s four outings.

Vinales completed 60 laps on the final day of the Qatar test, focusing on race runs while also giving Yamaha’s aerodynamic fairing another go. During his race simulation the 2013 Moto3 world champion managed a string of low-1m55s, and set a best lap of 1m54.330s midway through the session.

Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso was just 0.071s adrift on his Desmosedici GP17, the Italian feeling very content with his motorcycle at the Losail International Circuit this weekend.

Team-mate Jorge Lorenzo was fourth fastest on a 1m54.519s, with the Spaniard trialling Ducati’s new aero fairing for the first time today.

Splitting the Ducati pair was Honda’s Dani Pedrosa, who found a big upturn in pace late in the session to post a 1m54.469s. The Spaniard also put in a decent race run, lapping consistently in the mid-1m55s bracket.

Marc Marquez, on the sister factory RC213V, had a rather bruising evening in the desert. He crashed three times at various points of the session, and ended the day unable to improve on his 1m54.990s in 10th.

Much like on Friday, Honda had a new fairing to test, though this one looked more geared towards aiding internal airflow than aerodynamics as it features a wider air intake. LCR’s Cal Crutchlow also tested the new bodywork, the Briton just over a tenth ahead of Marquez in eighth after 70 laps.

Alvaro Bautista has been making big strides with his GP16 this weekend following a difficult test in Australia, and heads into the first round of the year as one to watch after ending the test fifth fastest. Also making improvements was Scott Redding, who took his Pramac GP16 to sixth.

Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Jonas Folger put in another productive day on his YZR-M1 in seventh, completing 53 laps. Team-mate Johann Zarco was just under a tenth off in ninth having managed 52 laps on Sunday.

Valentino Rossi appeared to have made a breakthrough with his M1 yesterday. The Yamaha rider had been struggling on corner entry all winter, but his team were seemingly able to find a solution on Saturday and this saw him go second quickest.

However, the nine-times world champion looked to have taken a step backwards today and was eight tenths off of the pace on a 1m55.185s, which was also almost half a second slower than what he managed during Saturday’s running.

Suzuki’s Andrea Iannone is finding adapting to the Suzuki a tricky task still, the Italian ending the day down in 12th on a 1m55.284s having suffered yet another crash. The sister GSX-RR of Alex Rins quietly went about his business, completing 64 laps, in 14th.

Aleix Espargaro didn’t get in as many laps as he would have hoped today, after two crashes hindered his progress. The Spaniard, trying Aprilia’s aero fairing for the first time since Phillip Island, completed the top 15 after 33 laps and was 1.1s off of the pace.
