Pascal Wehrlein will finally get the chance to test the Sauber C36-Ferrari this week after being deemed fit to drive.
Sauber said on Twitter “Pascal will be ready to hit the track with the C36 tomorrow”.
The German missed the opening preseason test due to a back injury sustained in a crash in the Race of Champions at the start of the year.
Following medical advice, Wehrlein sat out of the test, to be replaced by Ferrari’s Antonio Giovinazzi.
The Italian set the bar relatively high, considering he’s only had a handful of runs in a Formula One car. His fastest lap falls 14th in the rankings of every driver’s best time from the whole test, but was more than half a second slower than Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson.
Tuesday will be the first time Pascal Wehrlein will get a chance to turn a wheel in anger at Sauber, having joined the team for the 2017 season after a year racing for Manor.
