# Barbera breaks collarbone in training accident

Reale Esponsorama Avintia Racing’s Hector Barbera will undergo surgery in Barcelona today (Thursday 2) on a broken collarbone sustained whilst training this week.

The Spanish rider was putting in some last-minute pre-season preparations at his home circuit of Ricardo Tormo in Valencia on Wednesday when he crashed and suffered a break to his left collarbone.

The Avintia team has yet to reveal any details as to what happened, but the Spaniard will be operated on later today at the Hospital Universitari Dexeus by Dr Xavier Mir and his team of surgeons.

With the final test ahead of the 2017 season taking place next weekend in Qatar, Barbera faces a race against time to be ready. Having found adapting to the Ducati GP16 tough already, this is the last thing the Spaniard needs.

This winter has proven to be a bruising one for a number of riders across all three classes. Moto2 debutants Brad Binder and Jorge Navarro suffered a broken arm and dislocated shoulder respectively in crashes in Valencia last year, while Gresini Moto3’s Fabio Di Giannantonio broke his collarbone last month.

In MotoGP, Marc VDS’ Tito Rabat was forced to miss the Phillip Island test after sustaining multiple fractures and a knee laceration in a crash at Sepang.

Marc Marquez, during a private outing with the factory Honda team at Jerez, crashed at the fast left of Turn 7 and briefly dislocated his shoulder. Luckily, he will be fit to ride in Qatar next week.
