Toto Wolff believes Mercedes will continue the success they’ve seen over the past three years, despite the departure of technical boss Paddy Lowe.
Lowe oversaw the designing of the Mercedes cars for the past three years, leading to three Constructors’ championship and three one-two finishes in the Drivers’ championship. He also played an important role as an authority figure in situations like the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
It doesn’t seem like Lowe will be as easy to replace as other exiting members of the Mercedes team, but Wolff believes they already have the talent on board to continue without the technical chief.
“Paddy has played an important part in our success during the past three and a half years and we thank him for his contribution to this significant chapter in Mercedes’ motorsport history,” he was quoted by ESPN. “Success in Formula One is not about single individuals but about the strength in depth and technical capability of an organisation.

“We have the talent in place to continue our success of recent years and we plan to build upon it in 2017 and beyond.”
According to Wolff, there’s no “I” in “team” but the voice of authority Lowe provided might be a little harder to replace, should there be any disputes that need settling next year.
Mercedes might have the technical know-how to continue building championship-winning cars, but there’s been more to Mercedes success over the past three years than a good car and Lowe was more than just the man who oversaw the designs of those cars.
