Ecclestone would love to see Schumacher back in F1

Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has said that he would love to see the Schumacher name back on the grid the sport.

Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time world champion Michael, finished runner-up in both the Italian and ADAC Formula 4 championships in 2016 and will run for the PremaPower team in the Euro F3 series in 2017.

Ecclestone feels that the German could help boost the sport if he were to make it in the future telling the newspaper Bild and quoted by Sports Mole: “If he is anywhere near as good as his father, why not?

“It would be good for Formula 1 if the Schumacher name were represented again.”

Schumacher added: “From a professionalism point of view, it [European Formula 3] is a bit closer to the direction of Formula 1. It all gets closer together and becomes a bit more difficult.”

“I want to be Formula 1 World Champion; this is what every racer wants, I think.”

Schumacher will be facing very tough competition in the series from the likes of BRDC’s Autosport young driver Lando Norris, teammate Callum Illot, and GP3 winner Jake Hughes.
