# MotoGP to use modified F1 layout for Catalan GP

The MotoGP World Championship will continue to use the Formula 1 layout of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya following an agreement between both series’ governing bodies, the FIA and FIM.

This year saw MotoGP, as well as Moto2 and Moto3, use the alternate Turn 10 and final chicane instead of the original Turn 12 after SAG Racing Moto2 rider Luis Salom was killed there during practice on the Friday of the event.

Discussions in MotoGP’s safety commission had suggested that the F1 layout would remain in use for the foreseeable future but with some modifications. The FIM’s Franco Uncini as well as the FIA’s Charlie Whiting and the bosses of the Spanish circuit agreed on the changes last week, according to reports.

Whilst Turns 10 and 11 remain unchanged, the final chicane making up Turns 14 and 15 has been moved closer to the exit of Turn 13. As a result, the run-off at Turn 12 will be better suited to rider safety and the riders will also be able to enter the pits in a safer manner.

Work is expected to begin on the modifications in the new year, with project completion expected for the end of January. F1 will continue to use the original Turn 14/15 chicane.
