# New McLaren CEO not ruling out shock Hamilton return

New McLaren boss Zak Brown isn’t ruling out the possibility of Lewis Hamilton returning to his old team but says he’s happy with their pending 2017 line-up.

With Hamilton currently sitting in the best team on the grid, it’s unlikely the triple world champion will be moving teams in the near future. But Brown is sure his team will be back to winning ways sooner rather than later meaning maybe McLaren might be able to entice Hamilton with an appealing offer at the end of his current contract.

The new CEO’s main focus is returning the team back to the form fans had hoped for when Honda returned to the team in time for the 2015 season and believes having the best drivers possible will be essential for that goal.

“I will move heaven and earth to have the best two race car drivers in our car,” he told Sky Sports News. “Right now, we have them and Stoffel is going to be outstanding.”

Hamilton began his career with McLaren, taking his first world championship in 2008. He would leave for Mercedes in 2013, however, after four disappointing seasons.

“You can’t rule out anything for 2019, 2020,” Brown told Sky F1. “We will see what our current drivers want to do.”

Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne are already confirmed for the 2017 season, whilst Hamilton has extended his contract at Mercedes for a further three years. By the time Hamilton has the opportunity to leave the team – should he want to – McLaren might be back to the much-anticipated winning form.

“We have got to get back to winning soon,” said Brown. “But the great news is that when you walk around the facility this is a championship team. I don’t want to put a timetable on it because that is always dangerous, but everyone is trying to win as hard as possible.

“If you look at the resources we have, the people we have, and the drivers we have, we are going to get there and we are going to get there sooner rather than later.”
