# Navarro ‘happy’ after first Moto2 test

Spain’s Jorge Navarro made his Moto2 debut in last week’s two-day test at Jerez with the Gresini Team, and was left feeling extremely satisfied with his time on the bike.

Navarro endured a mixed final year in the Moto3 World Championship. After starting it strong with three podium finishes from the first five races, the Spaniard was certainly making the tilt for the title we all expected. This didn’t diminish when he took his maiden Grand Prix victory in Barcelona just a few races later. However, injury and a woeful run of bad luck derailed his challenge in the second half of the season.

The Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 team announced at the San Marino Grand Prix that they would be bringing onboard the Spaniard for 2017, Navarro replacing the MotoGP-bound Sam Lowes. The double race winner will join fellow Moto3 riders Brad Binder, Fabio Quartararo, Andrea Locatelli, Francesco Bagnaia and Khairul Idham Pawi in making the step up to the intermediate class next season.

Navarro completed 157 laps of the Jerez Circuit over the course of the two-day test, posting a best lap of 1m43.756s on Thursday to go 14th on the time sheets. With this being his first encounter with a Moto2 machine, Navarro spent the test getting to know the bike and getting used to the increased power and weight of it.

The Spaniard said he was happy with how he felt on the bike after the two days and is looking forward to getting to Valencia next week for a final two-day test before the winter shutdown commences on December 1.

“Obviously at the beginning I felt a lot the difference of speed and the weight of the bike compared to Moto3, but the team did a great job, helping me a lot, so throughout the day I got more and more confidence,” he said at the end of Wednesday’s running.

“It was a positive second day of testing: the sensations with the bike are getting better and better and I’m happy with the work done with the team. We worked mainly to improve the feeling with the rear when I’m opening the throttle and at the end of the day I felt very comfortable, so I’m satisfied. I’m happy with this first test, I can’t wait to get to Valencia to continue to learn.”
