Rosberg: Brazil qualifying ‘pretty intense’

As the 2016 season draws ever nearer to its conclusion, Nico Rosberg was certainly feeling the heat after dubbing the qualifying session for the Brazilian GP as ‘pretty intense’.

In what looked to be a close battle between the two title protagonists at Mercedes, we were treated to an all-out fight for who was to be the fastest man over one lap.

“That was a pretty intense qualifying out there today,” Rosberg said. “I was able to improve my times from lap to lap which felt good and it was all going very well. I found a good balance, a good rhythm… a good everything, really.

“Then, on my last run I was able to improve again – but at the end, Lewis was just that little bit quicker. But that’s the way it is and there is still a lot to play for tomorrow.”

With the threat of changeable conditions on Sunday, the race will surely ramp up the pressure on both drivers as one slip up from either man could well cost them a chance at the world championship.

A win for Rosberg in the race will guarantee his first title and the German still feels he is focused on the task at hand, despite all the factors that could disrupt his bid for glory.

“To win the race is definitely still possible from this position,” he added.

“The start is always a possibility and also with strategy, it could be interesting tomorrow. I also had a good long run this morning, so I am looking forward to a great race in front of this fantastic crowd.”
