Palmer pleased with Q2, knew there was more

After making into the second part of qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix, Jolyon Palmer feels that there was still more he could have done to be further up the grid.

With another year at the Renault team secured for 2017, the Briton was looking to carry on his recent strong run of form. However, despite making it into Q2 on his final run, he made some mistakes that could have given him a higher position on the grid.

Palmer said: “I’m pleased with reaching Q2 again today even though I wish we could be a bit higher on the grid for the race.

“I had a couple of lock-ups during my last run and had no rubber left on my front right, which is why I ran wide.”

After final practice, it looked like it could have been a good day for Renault, as Palmer finished in eighth after a good session in mixed conditions.

However, with the changeable weather likely to continue and impact the race on Sunday afternoon, Palmer will be looking to take advantage of any chances that come his way.

“It is a shame as FP3 this morning was really good and we could have done better still this afternoon,” he added. “I wanted a little bit more!

“Nonetheless tomorrow is race day, we will have to see what the weather conditions are first and then we will be pushing to the limit as always.”
