Lewis Hamilton won his first Grand Prix since July, to re-ignite his championship aspirations and reduce his teammate’s championship lead.
The triple world champion won his fifth American Grand Prix in style with a dominant display in both qualifying and the race which saw him cruise to his 50th career win.
His Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg limited the damage done by Hamilton’s win by coming home in a respectable second place ahead of Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo.
Sebastian Vettel bounced back from a disappointing qualifying to finish fourth while his teammate Kimi Raikkonen and rival Max Verstappen both retired from the race.
Fernando Alonso arguably put in his finest race of the season to finish in fifth place ahead of fellow countryman Carlos Sainz and the retiring Felipe Massa.
Sergio Perez came back from early contact with Daniil Kvyat to finish in eighth place. Jenson Button and Romain Grosjean completed the points-paying positions.
