# Miller fifth for home race

Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Honda’s Jack Miller will start his home race from the second row of the grid after qualifying fifth, though felt more was achievable today had it not been for a mistake on his final flying lap.

The Australian rider has shone so far this weekend in the adverse weather conditions experienced. On Friday he was third fastest in FP1 and just half a tenth outside of Marc Marquez’ best lap in second in this morning’s third free practice.

Miller was one of few who joined World Champion Marquez in changing to slicks right at the start of QP2, the Aussie though sticking wit the intermediate front tyre. Several quick laps saw him climb onto the front row, a 1m31.754s at the death seemingly good enough for third fastest.

But the Australian was denied a place in the top three by both Espargaro brothers on their final laps, and Miller was bumped back to the middle of the second row in one fell swoop. Miller missed the front row by seven tenths of a second and felt that a better time was possible had he not rode the kerb at the final corner on his final lap, the still saturated rumble strips causing his RC213V to wheelspin and lose him time.

Regardless, Miller says he is ‘feeling good’ for his home round and starts far enough up the grid to be a threat tomorrow afternoon. The forecast is for dry weather, but this can change in an instant and the Assen winner is well aware of that fact. However, he says he is more than prepared for whatever conditions Phillip Island will conjour up on Sunday.

“It’s a good starting position but I’m not totally satisfied because I could have done a better time if I had not run onto the kerb on the exit of the final corner,” said Miller.

“There was some water there and I had a lot of wheelspin and lost a lot of time. But I feel good for my home race, I’m starting a lot closer to the front than I usually do. The weather is always unpredictable so you can’t believe the forecast of a dry race but I’m ready for anything. Wait and see.”
