King to make Manor appearance in Austin practice

Development driver Jordan King will take part in his first Formula One practice session for Manor at the United States Grand Prix.

It is not yet known which driver he will be replacing for the session. Each of their current race drivers, Pascal Wehrlein and Esteban Ocon, have never raced at the Circuit of the Americas before and may need every piece of track time they can get to find their feet.

King, who has been with Manor since 2015, has tested for the team previously but has never sat in their car during a race weekend.

This announcement is the most recent accomplishment in a career that has steadily moved forwards in recent times.

He has raced in the GP2 Series in the last two seasons, with six podiums to his name to date.

King finished 12th in the championship last season for Racing Engineering with 60 points, racing alongside now-fellow Manor reserve driver Alexander Rossi.

The 22-year-old claimed his first podium last season with second in the Belgian sprint race.

King remained with the team for the current season, getting his first race win in the series in the Austrian sprint race before following this up with a sprint race victory at his home race in Silverstone.

He currently sits as the highest-placed British driver in the championship after 10 rounds in 2016 in fifth place on 122 points.
