Janosz given grid penalty for Malaysia GP3 sprint race

Trident’s Artur Janosz has been given a three-place grid penalty ahead of the GP3 sprint race in Malaysia following an incident involving the driver in the series’ feature race.

The Polish driver came into contact with the rear of DAMS’ Jake Hughes near the beginning of the 19-lap race. Both drivers quickly went on to become the second and third retirements of the race.

It was only Janosz’s second retirement of the season and first since the German sprint race at the end of July. Hughes had a retirement for the fourth time in 2016 and for the third time in five races as his run of difficult on-track situations continued.

This collision came under investigation after a few laps of the race and, after the event, the stewards deemed the Trident driver to be at fault for the incident.

Without any penalties, Janosz would have been expected to start from 20th on the grid for the sprint race, but will now start the race from the pit lane. This should promote Hughes and Arden International’s Tatiana Calderon up one place on the grid.

Janosz’s teammate Antonio Fuoco will start from reverse grid pole position after finishing the feature race in eighth, ahead of ART Grand Prix’s Nirei Fukuzumi and Arden’s Jake Dennis.
