Ocon: F1 not as difficult as I was expecting

F1 rookie Esteban Ocon has admitted his first races in Formula One have taught him the series is not as hard as he first expected.

The 20-year-old has three races under his belt after replacing Rio Haryanto at Manor for the remainder of the 2016 season.

Ocon has seen the chequered flag at two of the three Grand Prix’s, only retiring from the Italian Grand Prix at Monza thus far.

Although everything has not gone to plan for the young Frenchman, he is cherishing his opportunity to race at the highest level and adds it’s tough playing catch up on all aspects of a race weekend.

“No, I don’t think it’s harder than I was expecting,” Ocon said in Thursday’s drivers’ press conference.

“I was expecting it to be hard, coming after 11 Grands Prix or 12 Grands Prix.

“It’s never easy if you come in any championship at halfway through the season, all the drivers have had time to work on everything, on all the points and you arrive, you have to catch up everything again, so of course it’s tough.

“But at the end, you are working for the same thing and the important thing are the tracks.

“For sure there is much more things to do in F1 and you work with many more people.

“But at the end, it’s the same thing and the track is the important bit.”
