# Navarro tops opening practice at MotorLand

Estrella Galicia 0,0 Honda’s Jorge Navarro kicked off proceedings at the MotorLand Aragon Circuit by topping the time sheets in FP1.

The Spaniard comes into his home race with a mathematical chance of winning the world title, though with a 106-point deficit to standings leader Brad Binder Navarro’s aim now for these final five races will be on taking the best results possible. He ended this morning’s session six tenths clear of the field with a lap of 1m59.676s.

Juanfran Guevara got his weekend off to a promising start after taking the chequered flag in second position, with Gresini’s Enea Bastianini completing the top three. Aron Canet returns to a circuit familiar to him from his CEV days, using that track knowledge to go fourth fastest in FP1. Gabriel Rodrigo completed the top five on the second of the RBA bikes.

Jorge Martin returned to action this morning after missing the San Marino Grand Prix with a foot injury sustained during a crash in practice at Misano. A previous winner at Aragon in the Red Bull Rookies Cup, Martin was sixth quickest in FP1. Niccolo Antonelli, Fabio Quartararo, Bo Bendsneyder and Andrea Locatelli round out the top 10.

World Champion-elect Brad Binder didn’t have the smoothest of mornings. The South African faces his first shot at clinching the Moto3 World Championship this weekend, a top two finish regardless of where his rivals finish will seal the deal. In FP1, a few minor issues with his quick-shifter halted his progress and he took the flag in 11th position with a best lap of 2m00.649s.

Leopard Racing’s Joan Mir was absent from this morning’s running after waking with a high fever. The Spaniard opted to sit out the session in order to undergo treatment in the track’s medical centre. It remains unclear whether he will be present for FP2 this afternoon.
