# MotoGP: San Marino Grand Prix Preview

After an intense race at Silverstone, the MotoGP world championship moves onto the San Marino GP at Misano.

Misano is famously Valentino Rossi country, with the circuit situated not far from Vale’s hometown of Tavullia. The other Italian riders will also attract support from the local crowd, with many also coming from the surrounding area.

**Last Time Out**

Last year’s race at Misano was a crazy affair, with many riders pitting twice to change tyres thanks to changing conditions. It was to be Marc Marquez who took victory after taking a gamble with his tyres that paid off. Home favourite Rossi misjudged when to pit, and ended up down in fifth.

It was to be a milestone for two of the British riders, however, with Bradley Smith and Scott Redding both finishing on the podium. This was the first time since 1979 that the feat had happened, and saw Redding take his first ever Grand Prix podium. It was to be an ever greater achievement when you consider Redding crashed early on in the race.

Jorge Lorenzo was battling with the leaders but fell late on. At the time, many thought this would hand Rossi the championship. But, as we know now, this wasn’t to be the case…

**Maverick continues to be Suzuki’s “Top Gun”**

After taking Suzuki’s first victory since their MotoGP return, Maverick Vinales will be hoping to show that his win at Silverstone was no fluke. The Spaniard, who will join Yamaha at the end of this season, will be hoping to challenge at the front yet again this weekend.

It will be another important weekend in the Championship hunt as well. Marc Marquez will be trying to extend his lead over Valentino Rossi, who managed to just beat the Spaniard at Silverstone. Rossi will be hoping to deliver on home soil, repeating the heroics from his famous 2014 win.

And yet again, the pressure is on for Jorge Lorenzo. After another disappointing ride last weekend, the Yamaha rider needs a win to keep his slim championship hopes alive. He’ll need to perform on his teammates big day (and in front of his very adoring fans…) and finally end this poor run of form.

**Moto2 and Moto3**

In Moto2, the battle continues for the world championship. After Sam Lowes and Johann Zarco collided at the Gresini riders home race, the Briton will be out for revenge. Lowes refuses to believe his championship charge is dead, and will be hoping to show pace like he did at Silverstone.

Alex Rins will again be attempting to salvage something, after injuring himself before Silverstone. The Pons rider now sits ten points behind Zarco in the world championship, showing that his title challenge isn’t dead just yet.

In Moto3, Brad Binder continues to dominate proceedings. Nobody could stop the South African at Silverstone, and many will expect a win from the KTM rider this weekend.

After crashing out last Sunday, Jorge Navarro will need a miracle to win the World Championship. Winning could help this weekend, but the margin would still be massive between himself and Binder.
