# Luthi wins as Lowes and Zarco controversially collide

Tom Luthi won a British Moto2 race at Silverstone marred with controversy, as championship rivals Sam Lowes and Johann Zarco collided.

Lowes and Zarco collided late on, as the pair were battling for second place. Zarco attempted to pass Lowes but the pair collided, sending both of them into the run off area. Lowes fell off his bike, whilst Zarco was able to stay on and re-join.

The stewards later handed Zarco a 30 second penalty. This left the Frenchman with no points, severely hampering his championship lead.

Franco Morbidelli would eventually come home in second place, with Takaaki Nakagami taking the final podium spot in third. Hafizh Syahrin finished in fourth, with the Malaysian narrowly missing out on a top 3 finish.

Jonas Folger was unable to turn his early pace into a podium, with the German coming home fifth. Behind him was Lorenzo Baldasarri, who finished sixth.

Alex Rins came from the back end of the grid to finish seventh and reduce the gap between himself and Zarco in the championship. Simone Corsi was eighth whilst Mattia Pasini and Axel Pons came home ninth and tenth.

The result means Zarco only has a 10 point gap between himself and Alex Rins, meaning the championship is far from over. The Spaniard’s injury may limit how well he can do at Misano next week, but he should still be in with a shout of taking home the coveted prize.
