# Marquez sets the pace in FP3 at Silverstone

The third free practice session for the MotoGP class has ended with Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez on top.

Marquez set the pace by managing a lap time of 2m00.944s, a time not far off his blistering lap record set last year.

Marquez was closely followed by Maverick Vinales, who was only three hundredths of a second behind the championship leader.

Andrea Iannone crashed out of the session late on, but was able to get back on the bike and his improve his time. He ended the morning in third place, and will be one of the ones to watch later on in qualifying.

Cal Crutchlow was fourth in front of his home crowd, whilst Jorge Lorenzo was the best of the Yamaha’s in fifth. Scott Redding was able to get into Q2 with a solid sixth placed finish.

Andrea Dovizioso, Dani Pedrosa and Aleix Espargaro all managed to get into the top 12 shootout, ending the day in seventh, eighth and ninth. Valentino Rossi just scraped through into Q2 by taking tenth with a late lap.

The biggest casualties include Danilo Petrucci and Pol Espargaro, who will have to fight it out in Q1. Alex Lowes improved his time massively in this session, ending up in 17th place.

Qualifying for the MotoGP class gets underway at 14:10 BST.
