Cal Crutchlow has taken a historic pole position this afternoon at the British GP at Silverstone.
The LCR Honda rider took the first pole position by a British rider at the British GP in the premier class since Barry Sheene in 1977. This adds to his record breaking exploits after he became the first Briton to win a GP in 35 years at Brno.
He was followed by Valentino Rossi, who was able to achieve a solid front row start after a shaky start to the weekend. He will start alongside Maverick Vinales, who has shown pace throughout all the sessions so far.
Dani Pedrosa will head the second row, with Marc Marquez just behind him. Marquez will be disappointed with his performance after crashing late on in the session.
Eugene Laverty had a storming ride to end the session on the second row in sixth. It could’ve been more for the Irishman, but for a late crash that saw a potential pole position lap go away from him.

Scott Redding was seventh in front of his home crowd, with Andrea Iannone and Jorge Lorenzo joining him on the third row. Andrea Dovizoso will head the fourth row, with Aleix Espargaro and Jack Miller joining him in eleventh and twelfth.
In the best of the rest, Alex Lowes put in a good ride to start tomorrow in sixteenth place, not far behind teammate Pol Espargaro.
The MotoGP race gets underway at 15:30 tomorrow, and Read Motorsport will be giving you on the ground coverage.
