# 2016 F1 Mid-Season Review: Mercedes

Winning in Formula One is a mighty feat, but maintaining pre-eminence is an even greater challenge. For Mercedes, however, they have seemingly been at ease with the situation, as their winning machine has rolled on from 2014 into 2015 and have once again proved imperious in 2016.

The W07 picked up from where it’s predecessor left off and, while reliability concerns at the start of the season provided occasional headaches, they have been the dominant force.

With the team having taken a stunning 11 wins from a possible 12, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are once again embroiled in a titanic scrap for title honours, where a number of close encounters on track have added some extra spice.

Hamilton has managed to overhaul a 43-point deficit to his teammate, suffered as a result of the Briton enduring the vast majority of the W07’s teething troubles during the opening leg of the campaign, but as Rosberg’s form dipped, the world champion returned to the top step.

Four victories from four races in July and six wins from the past seven races overall have seen Hamilton amass a 19-point lead, and he sits in a comfortable position at the top of the standings as the season heads into the back nine.
