2016 was set to be the year that Ferrari took the fight to Mercedes for the world championship.
After a surprisingly competitive 2015 which included three wins, then followed by strong Winter testing, those hopes continued to rise.
However, at the mid-season stage, Ferrari has arguably been the most disappointing team so far. At this stage last year they had two wins already under their belt, but fast forward a year and the Scuderia is yet to visit the top step of the podium.
Despite a number of strong finishes early doors, poor strategy calls have been overshadowing their potential and it’s clear to see Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen expected more from this season.
Many are starting to compare Ferrari’s campaign to 2014 when the team suffered their worst season in 21 years. After scoring just two podiums, key team members were moved on in a complete restructure behind the scenes.
More recently, the loss of technical director James Allison has rocked the team and with nine races remaining, things are looking bleak at Maranello. Let’s dig deeper into Ferrari’s season so far, trying to analyse where things have gone wrong and how costly the mistakes have been for their championship.
