# Tost: Kvyat needs a good result to regain confidence

Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost is hopeful Daniil Kvyat will regain the confidence he lost after being demoted to the junior team earlier in the season.

Kvyat’s performances have suffered massively and the Russian has been outperformed by his team mate in every race since he rejoined Toro Rosso back in May.

“We all know Daniil can do a very good job – he won the GP3 championship, he won many races there, and he was on the podium in China,” Tost told Autosport.

“It cannot be he lost his driving abilities within a few months.”

The Toro Rosso boss also said he could understand Kvyat’s lack of confidence, but said Red Bull had given him the chance to stay in Formula One, with the switch to the junior team, adding the 22-year-old should ‘see this from the positive side’.

Tost also believes the key for Kvyat would simply be a good result and that would give the lift he needs to get his confidence – and his speed – back.

“I just hope that at the next races he gets everything together, and we can provide him with a competitive, fast car. Once he has a good result, the confidence will come back.”

Nothing is set in stone for 2017, but Tost hopes to keep the young Russian on board.

“I personally hope he will race with us because I am convinced that sooner or later he will show his real performance and he will come back with his speed.”
