Manor Racing had a simple goal in their second season under new ownership in F1: progress.
This year saw the Banbury-based squad able to develop their first chassis after using an adapted version of the 2014 Marussia to compete in 2015 and also a switch to Mercedes power units gave them hope their goal would be achieved.
As part of the deal with the German carmaker for their engines, Manor took on DTM champion Pascal Wehrlein, a driver destined to one day replace either Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg at the world champions.
But as with any team towards the back of the grid, the need for extra revenue meant a driver with sponsorship funds was as important as talent, in this regard Rio Haryanto was brought in to become Indonesia’s first F1 driver.
With two rookies in the team, how would Manor get on in their quest to become much more than just the 21st and 22nd cars on the grid? Here is their mid-season report.
