# Button to commence McLaren talks next month

Jenson Button has revealed he will begin talks with McLaren in September over a potential new deal for 2017.

The 2009 world champion, who’s current contract expires at the end of the year, is looking to continue his stay in Formula One for another season.

The Briton is competing in his 17th Formula One season and has been linked away from McLaren for a possible reunion at Williams where he began his career in 2000.

Button confirmed he would begin talking to McLaren over a new deal next month, but insists even if he doesn’t race in F1 next year, he’ll be looking to have some fun doing something different.

“I haven’t talked to the team yet,” he said. “In September we are going to sit down and have a chat and decide whether I want to be racing in Formula 1 or whether they want me racing in Formula 1 or what the decision is.

“I’ve lived my whole life by a schedule and suddenly I won’t be living by a schedule, which will be the first time in my 18 years as an adult, which is really exciting, whenever that does happen.”

Should Button opt to hang up his helmet there is a possibility to drive in endurance racing or rallycross, something the 36-year-old is very keen to try.

“I would love to be part of the WEC programme,” he added. “I think I would really enjoy the camaraderie and the team effort that goes into building and racing a car for a long distance event.

“I’d also like to do Rallycross in the future, something my dad did. There’s a lot of things I’d love to do.”
