For the second consecutive race, Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson will be forced to start from the pitlane after his team changed his chassis.
Like in Silverstone, Ericsson crashed heavily on Saturday, damaging his chassis.
Fortunately for the Swede this time around, he did not suffer any injuries, however, will be forced to start from the pitlane.
Ericsson crashed at Turn 10 during Q1 in qualifying for the Hungaroring. After assessing the damage, Sauber have decided to change his chassis as a precaution.
Ericsson will now use a chassis previously used by Felipe Nasr, who believed there was an issue with it and subsequently changed to a new one.
The 25-year-old was due to start 20th, ahead of both Manor cars, but changing a driver’s chassis means the car needs to be taken out of parc ferme resulting in a pitlane start.
Speaking after qualifying, Ericsson admitted he simply ‘lost the car’.
“I lost the car, so in the end it was my mistake and the session was quickly over for me,” said Ericsson.
“I should have done better. I apologise to the team for the work load I have caused them. I will fight back on Sunday.”
