Ferrari protege Charles Leclerc says he would be ready to make the step up from GP3 to F1.
Leclerc currently leads the GP3 drivers’ standings and has participated in several Formula One free practice sessions for Haas.
The 18-year-old does not have the required number of ‘points’ on his FIA Super Licence, however, would have enough if he wins the GP3 crown come the end of the season.
The Monegasque driver has tested for both Haas and Ferrari in recent months and he feels he would be ready to make the step up to F1 if the opportunity arises.
“Yeah, I think so,” he said to the media in Budapest after FP1 when asked if he thought he was ready to race in F1.
“We will see with the opportunity I get at the end of the year, but if I have the opportunity I will jump on it.”
Leclerc added that the situation raises the pressure slightly in GP3, but he remains focused on his goal.
“A little bit [the pressure is raised], but in the end I always have the same mind set,” he added.
“I give the best of myself then I will see what it gives at the end of the year.”
Current Haas driver Esteban Gutierrez has yet to score a point in 2016 and could be potentially replaced by Leclerc if his performances do not pick up later this season.
