# Iannone tops first German GP practice as Lorenzo crashes

Ducati’s Andrea Iannone set the fastest time in FP1 at the Sachsenring, as reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo crashed out.

Conditions were tricky for all of the riders due to the cold temperatures and the impending threat of rain. Lorenzo was one of three riders to crash out at Turn 11. The Yamaha rider lost the front-end of his YZR-M1 and ended up in the gravel trap.

It had appeared the Spaniard had suffered an injury in his left arm but x-rays conducted in a nearby medical mobile cleared him of any fractures.

Scott Redding and Stefan Bradl were the other two riders to fall at Turn 11.

Iannone made the most of the limited dry track running to top the timesheets in FP1 ahead of Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez, who has a 100% record at the Sachsenring, winning the last six races in all classes at the German circuit.

Danilo Petrucci was an impressive third ahead of Valentino Rossi and Andrea Dovizioso.

Lorenzo ended first practice in 12th whilst on his return to MotoGP after being ruled out due to an injury, Loriz Baz did not set a lap time and completed only three laps.

The rain meant no one could beat Iannone’s benchmark and only a handful of riders ventured out into the wet conditions.
