# Boschung takes maiden GP3 victory in horrendous conditions

Koiranen GP’s Ralph Boschung took his maiden GP3 victory in a horrendous rain affected race two in Austria.

The rain was so horrific, the first nine laps of racing was spent behind the Safety Car. However, there was drama even under Safety car conditions.

Kevin Jorg was left stranded on the grid while Nirei Fukuzumi and Richard Gonda grounded to a halt.

When the Safety Car came in, polesitter Jake Hughes lead Matt Parry and Alexander Albon. Hughes and Parry then made contact and the DAMS driver was spent spinning back to sixth.

Koiranen GP’s Ralph Boschung swooped into the lead followed by Alexander Albon. Meanwhile, Terechenko beached his Campos into the gravel after a failed overtake on Jake Dennis.

Isaakyan joined the long list of retirement quickly followed by Akash Nandy. Consequently, another Safety Car was deployed.

Almost immediately after the Safety Car was called in, race one winner and championship leader Charles Leclerc collided with Tatiana Calderon and Jake Dennis, eliminating the trio from the race and it brought on another Safety Car period.

The remaining three laps were run behind the Safety Car so 18-year-old Ralph Boschung became one of the youngest GP3 race winners.

Alexander Albon maintained ART’s podium streak by finishing second ahead of Antonio Fuoco and McLaren junior Nyck de Vries.

Arden’s Jack Aitken finished a season’s best fifth, he was followed by British duo Jake Hughes and Matt Parry, the former will be disappointed with just four points from this race considering he started on pole.

Sandy Stuvik took the final point with an eighth place finish ahead of Artur Janosz and Santino Ferrucci who is still yet to score a point in GP3.

Alex Palou ended the race in a lowly eleventh place ahead of Steijn Schothorst, Oscar Tunjo who made a mistake at Turn 2 and ran through the gravel and Kevin Jorg who finished in fourteenth place.

Albon has cut teammate Charles Leclerc’s advantage in the Drivers’ Standings to just five points while Ralph Boschung has moved up to seventh after a brilliant maiden win.
