# Lorenzo edges narrow win at Mugello

Jorge Lorenzo managed to take a narrow win at Mugello after only just beating Honda’s Marc Marquez over the line.

Lorenzo had led from the beginning, overtaking teammate and rival Valentino Rossi on the first corner. The two battled it out throughout the race, but it was to be heartbreak for the Italian and the swarms of fans that lined the Tuscan hills surrounding the famous circuit. After 15 laps, Valentino’s engine blew in the same way that Lorenzo’s did in Warmup and it was to be curtain’s for his race. Scott Redding’s Ducati also died on the same lap.

Lorenzo looked to be on his way to yet another win, however, Honda’s Marc Marquez had other ideas, and the Spaniard caught up Lorenzo with around 5 laps remaining. On the final lap Marquez looked to have passed the world champion, however, Lorenzo had other ideas and was able to pass Marquez on the straight, winning by only 0.019 seconds!

Behind the pair, Andrea Iannone, fresh from the news that he will be moving to the Suzuki team next season, managed to pick up third place after a poor start left him down in tenth. He managed to storm through the pack and pass his teammate for third. Pedrosa finished behind him, with Dovizioso finishing in fifth.

Maverick Vinales managed to finish in sixth, followed by Bradley Smith and Danilo Petrucci in seventh and eight respectively. Aleix Espargaro ended up in ninth, with Michelle Pirro in tenth.

The only crash of the race occurred on the first corner, with Loris Baz, Jack Miller and Alvaro Bautista all hitting the deck.

The next round of the championship takes place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in two weeks time.
