# Piquet on top in second practice in Berlin

After what has been a difficult season for the reigning Formula E champion, Nelson Piquet Jr. returned to form by topping the timesheets in second practice for the Berlin ePrix.

A late lap from the Brazilian put him ahead of the DS Virgin duo of Sam Bird and Jean-Eric Vergne, who led the way for the majority of the session.

Second practice was halted with 12 minutes remaining due to Stéphane Sarrazin crashing heavily at Turn 11, resulting in a red flag period.

The red flag period meant some of the main protagonists in Formula E were unable to complete their qualifying simulations.

Robin Frijns was an impressive fourth fastest ahead of NEXTEV TCR’s Oliver Turvey and Loic Duval.

Bruno Senna was 0.401s off the pace set by Piquet in seventh with Daniel Abt, Mike Conway and Nick Heidfeld rounded out the top 10.

Championship rivals Lucas di Grassi and Sebastien Buemi were well down the order despite showing impressive pace in FP1. Both drivers were unable to set a 200kw lap time due to the red flag.

Piquet Jr. will be encouraged by the pace shown in FP2 after he endured a difficult session up until setting the fastest time of FP2 after he was unable to take to the circuit until five minutes to go due to a battery failure on one of his cars.

Qualifying for the Berlin ePrix gets underway at 1100 BST.
