# Dovizioso signs two year contract extension at Ducati

Andrea Dovizioso has extended his deal with Ducati for a further two years, meaning that the Italian will be partnering Jorge Lorenzo next year.

Dovizioso had been in competition with his fellow Italian and teammate Andrea Iannone for the remaining factory Ducati ride. However, after some very poor performances and several crashes from Iannone, Ducati have decided to offer Dovizioso a new contract.

The 30 year old’s 2016 season has been impressive, even with his barren run of luck. He was taken out by his soon to be former teammate Iannone at Austin, and fell off last weekend at Le Mans from a potential podium. However, he is the quickest Ducati on the grid, and is obviously finding something that Iannone simply cannot.

With the Ducati spot now filled with Dovizioso, many will now be questioning where Andrea Iannone ends up. Potential destinations for the Italian include a move to Suzuki, where Kevin Schwantz has spoken very highly of him, and also a move to the Aprilia team to partner Sam Lowes. Aprilia reportedly want a quick Italian on their bike for next year, and Iannone seems to fit the criteria.
