Kimi Raikkonen admits he ‘tried everything’ to pass eventual race winner Max Verstappen at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Raikkonen was unable to pass the 18-year-old for the lead of the race after jumping both Daniel Ricciardo and Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel through the stops.
The 2007 champion got within DRS range of the Red Bull driver but was unable to overtake him.
Raikkonen says he was pleased to see Verstappen take his first win in F1 but was disappointed not to pass him.

“I’m happy for Max, disappointed for myself, but that’s racing,” he said.”We were fast, but I could not follow close through the final corners, and was losing downforce.
“I tried everything [to pass Verstappen], but it wasn’t enough,” said Raikkonen, who moves up to second in the Drivers’ Championship ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.
“After [qualifying] yesterday we would have been happy with second and third, but we got so close, so it’s even more disappointing – it’s just part of racing,” he explained.
