Renault’s Kevin Magnussen has been left unhappy with a Spanish Grand Prix in which he struggled at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The Danish driver finished in 15th place, in his qualifying position. After the race he has dropped down to 14th in the Drivers’ Championship after Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez claimed significant points-scoring finishes. Renault remain in ninth in the Constructors’ Championship, moving further adrift of Force India and McLaren, with the team now six points behind the latter.
He tried racing on every available compound during the race, but only found the soft tyres would work with his car.
“We had decent pace on the soft tyre but on the hard and the medium – especially the medium – we were weak,” Magnussen said.
“It wasn’t a good day for me and I’ll be working closely with the team to understand why we weren’t able to deliver.”
The team are also set to bring new parts to the car in the post-race test during the week, including the first appearance of the B-spec Renault engine alongside a new suspension and aero updates.
Magnussen can’t wait to see if these parts perform and if they can get them onto his car to attempt to begin to improve their performance.
“I’m definitely looking forward to the test and getting some new bits on the car as today certainly wasn’t representative of what we are capable of achieving.”
