Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson has said that he was ‘satisfied’ with his race in the Spanish Grand Prix.
The Swedish driver finished in 12th to repeat his best finish of the season which he first claimed in Bahrain, the best result a Sauber car has had so far in 2016. However, with Haas’ Esteban Gutierrez finishing ahead of him in 11th, he falls down to 20th in the Drivers’ Championship, with Sauber still in tenth in the Constructors’ Championship.
“I am happy with my race today,” said Ericsson. “We went for a good strategy from my point of view.
“I am also satisfied with my driving, as I did not make mistakes and had a good pace at the same time. I would say it was one of my best races in Formula One so far.
“We all know that we are still struggling with our car to keep up with other teams, but today I was able to beat one of our main competitors [finishing ahead of both Renault cars].
“Without updates on the car, I think we can be satisfied with this result today. We will keep pushing for Monaco.”
Monaco will be the next time a Sauber car is seen on a racetrack with the team not taking part in the post-race test in Barcelona.
