# Rosberg leads second practice in Barcelona

Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg returned to the top of the timesheets in second practice at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Rosberg has won the opening four races of 2016 and was fastest in FP2, 0.254s clear of Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen in second.

Lewis Hamilton made a mistake on his fastest soft tyre run, ending second practice third fastest, 0.719s off his teammate’s benchmark. Similarly, Sebastian Vettel failed to extract the maximum from his Ferrari and was 1.095s off the pace.

Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz was an impressive fifth ahead of Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and McLaren’s Fernando Alonso.

Williams looked to be struggling at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with Valtteri Bottas only twelfth fastest whilst Felipe Massa was sixteenth.

Both Manor cars were ahead of the Sauber duo showing the former’s upgrades are working well.

Jolyon Palmer had limited running after suffering a puncture early on in the session. The 2014 GP2 Series champion was seventeenth fastest.

Esteban Gutierrez could only complete nine laps in the Haas, suffering another mechanical issue.

Final practice in Barcelona gets underway at 1000 BST on Saturday.
