Daniel Ricciardo is hopeful that he can fight with the Williams duo of Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa after qualifying sixth in Sochi.
Valtteri Bottas will start the race from the front row of the grid alongside polesitter Nico Rosberg whilst Felipe Massa will start fourth.
Ricciardo will start fifth and is hopeful he can fight both Williams cars in Sunday’s race.
“We are obviously a long way off the Mercedes but we expected that so if we can race the Williams tomorrow that would be good,” he said.
“We don’t have much of an advantage here because it’s a one stop, everyone is able to push on the tyres and it will be flat out for a majority of the race therefore we are not able to do much with strategy.
The Australian is eyeing a top five finish despite finishing fourth in each of the last three races.
“If we finish in the top five, that would be a very good result for us.”
