Sainz happy with China performance

Carlos Sainz says he is happy with today’s performance that lead to him finishing P9 ahead of Valtteri Bottas who made a mistake in the last few laps promoting both Toro Rosso drivers.

Sainz had a clean start to the race and managed to stay out of trouble as carnage broke loose at Turn 1.

“I enjoyed it out there today,” Sainz said to the press after the race had been completed. “We had fights with Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, which are the battles we want to be having. A P9 in the end aren’t that many points, but it’s good to finish with both cars in the top 10 and keep adding to our tally.

“Maybe we could’ve finished a bit higher up, but we lost a lot of time behind Force India in the pit-lane during the first pit-stop… Overall, it was good fun out there today, we were able to do a lot of overtakes and our pace was decent.”

Sainz will be looking to use the good pace of the car for a better points haul during the Russian Grand Prix in two weeks’ time.
