Verstappen happy to end Bahrain points drought

Max Verstappen was ‘very happy’ to take eight points away from the second round of the 2016 Formula One season in Bahrain.

In Australia, Verstappen completely lost his cool and finished down in tenth after starting sixth but his fortunes changed in Bahrain.

“I’m very happy with today’s result! I think we bounced back very strongly from the first weekend and the whole team did a fantastic job – a great strategy, good pit stops… It all worked out perfectly, including our tyre management.

Verstappen opted for a three-stop strategy in the race and used all three tyre compounds on his way to his best result since the 2015 United States Grand Prix.

“To finish P6 is a fantastic way to finish the weekend and I’d like to thank the whole team for their excellent work.

Since Toro Rosso entered the sport in 2006, they have failed to score at every Bahrain Grand Prix they have entered, however, Verstappen managed to finally end their barren Bahrain run.

“Also, this is the first time ever that the team scores points here in Bahrain, so I’m very happy to have changed this statistic – as I said before coming here, that was one of my objectives!”

Max Verstappen moves up to eighth place in the Drivers’ Championship and Toro Rosso are promoted to sixth in the Constructors’ Championship.
