Gutierrez remains positive despite another non-finish

Esteban Gutierrez is remaining positive ahead of Chinese Grand Prix despite retiring from both of the two opening rounds of the season.

Gutierrez started the race in 13th place but quickly made progress and joined his teammate in the points early on in the race.

“We have done a fantastic job. After a great start, where I gained a lot of positions, I was feeling very confident. I was very happy with how the car was feeling, and I was managing my tires and fuel well.

However, Gutierrez ran into trouble on the tenth lap, diminishing all hopes of scoring points in Formula One for only the second time in his career.

“Unfortunately, we had an issue with the front brake and we felt we couldn’t continue, so I had to retire.”

Gutierrez will be overjoyed to see his teammate in the top five, showing the true pace of the Haas. The F1 circus now heads to Shanghai and Gutierrez will be desperate to open his point scoring account for 2016.

“I’m now looking ahead to China. The team is performing really well. The speed is there and we have a great car. So, I will keep fighting for the next race.”

Unsurprisingly, Gutierrez sits 22nd in the Drivers’ Championship after failing to finish in the opening two races of 2016.
