Rosberg fastest in Bahrain second practice

Mercedes continued to dominate in Bahrain as Nico Rosberg topped second practice at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Both Mercedes drivers completed over 30 laps each and look to be in a league of their own in the Middle East.

Jenson Button was the surprise of the session, setting the third fastest time of the session on the supersoft tyre. It remains to be seen whether McLaren are serious candidates on making it into Q3 in qualifying but they will be encouraged by Button’s strong pace in FP2.

Max Verstappen ended FP2 ahead of both Ferrari drivers, Kimi Raikkonen ahead of Sebastian Vettel, who failed to set a fast time on the supersoft tyre after making a mistake in sector two.

Vettel was forced to stop out on the circuit after suffering some sort of mechanical issue with 15 minutes on the clock.

The two Red Bulls and two Williams’ rounded out the top 10 positions.

Romain Grosjean suffered a front wing failure on his Haas but managed to complete 23 laps on his way to 14th.
