Elimination qualifying format to remain for Bahrain

The ‘elimination style’ qualifying format will remain for next weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sakhir International Circuit.

AUTOSPORT’s Ian Parkes was the first to confirm the news that this format will remain for the upcoming race in Bahrain.

Despite much criticism from fans and the drivers themselves, F1 officials have decided to give the elimination qualifying format another chance.

On Sunday morning, all of the teams had agreed to revert back to the 2006-2015 qualifying format but it appears they have been overruled by the FIA and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.

“They’re going to do what I proposed, which is leave things as they are for this race [in Bahrain],” Ecclestone told Autosport.

“After that we will then have a good look and decide whether what was done was the right thing to do, the wrong thing to do, does it need modifying, does it need scrapping?”
