Celis handed FP1 outing in Bahrain

Force India will award development driver Alfonso Celis Jr. a chance to drive in the first practice session at next weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix.

The 19-year-old Mexican is set to replace fellow countryman Sergio Perez, taking part in his first official race weekend with the Silverstone based outfit.

It’s believed to be the first of several practice sessions Celis to take part in, he joined the team last year driving in the post-season Pirelli test.

The former GP3 racer also piloted the VJM09 at the first pre-season test in Barcelona last February.

Celis has already taken part in two of F1’s major feeder series, racing in GP3 and Formula Renault 3.5 in 2015.

He scored one podium in GP3, finishing 12th overall in the series with 24 points respectively.
