Felipe Nasr was left frustrated with his Sauber’s lack of pace in the opening round of the 2016 Formula One season.
“We struggled with our pace compared to our competitors. It was clear during the race that I could not keep up with the cars in front of me.”
Nasr started the race alongside his teammate in 16th place on the eighth row of the grid. However, the Sauber C35 struggled for ultimate race pace.
Nasr failed to make progress and only went backwards, ultimately finishing 15th, last but one of the 16 finishers. However, Nasr also saw the positives in this difficult weekend.
“It was good that we could gain important data from the C35, and we need to analyse every detail to find performance in the car.”
There is a huge challenge ahead for the whole Sauber team as they battle to stay in the top 10 in the constructors’ championship.
“We have to improve the C35 in different areas. I think we have a lot of work ahead of us.”
Sauber will be hoping to score their first points in Bahrain and iron out the reliability issues which forced Nasr’s teammate Ericsson to retire from the race.
