Driver ratings: 2016 Australian Grand Prix

After a farcical qualifying yesterday, a thrilling 2016 Australian Grand Prix was exactly what Formula One needed.

Nico Rosberg opted for the superior strategy after a red flag was brought out because of a huge collision between Esteban Gutierrez and Fernando Alonso, and took home maximum points from the opening round of the 2016 Formula One season.

Despite starting on pole, Lewis Hamilton will be content with second place after he found himself down in sixth place after the opening race. Sebastian Vettel came home third but he will be disappointing not to win after leading before the red flag.

Home favourite Daniel Ricciardo came from eighth place to fourth after his Red Bull looked to be one of the quickest cars. Felipe Massa came home fifth.

Arguably one of the stars of the race was Romain Grosjean and the whole Haas team after scoring a brilliant sixth place and eight valuable points. Hulkenberg, Bottas, Sainz and Verstappen rounded out the top 10.

Here is how we rated (out of 10) each driver’s performance in Australia:
